Design Catalogue
As part of our submission requirements for DESI401, we are to write a 3000-5000 words essay on our research and design. I've chosen to submit mine in the form of an A5 sized catalogue. My catalogue is going to be an important part of my (design research) years work, it will look closely into my discoveries of design this year, as well as show my design work and critiques.
This blog will constitute my 'workbook'. I've thought about a way of submitting it, but it was never really intended to be printed... so submitted as an online blog it will be. (with some layout adjustments)
Below is the first 1200 words of my design essay. Only a quarter of the way along, but have a lot of notes and sketches still to process and put into my essay. It seems most straight forward to submit it in the 3 sections that I've been look at this year. Student, In-house and Freelance design sections.

hi galina
its rebecca here just wanted to say like it looks like your work this year has come along nicely! I think as designers we tend to look at our surroundings in a different way to your average jo. I find myself noticing things that the normal person would overlook. Thats the part of your project i find the most interesting, the documentation of a place you interact with on a daily basis. how you present it is obviously going to have a effect on the way it is recieved, that mock up shot of the mall really caught my attention, some thing about it i duno it feels more "designed" than the street shot even tho its just a mock up. il have another look and leave a comment. my email is destony_2006@yahoo.co.nz if you wana write back!

Hi Rebecca, thanks for your comment, it’s good to get feedback (of any sort) from other students. Yes, I think as designers we often see and feel things on a different visual level than other people, as well as a sub-verbal level which I also find interesting. Being able to talk about your design work I think is just as important as the work itself and it’s something that I’ve had to embrace a lot this year, with writing on this blog, working in a design studio and doing the presentation to other students in July. I think providing explanations for our creative actions, especially while at Art School is so important. Anyway, I’m digressing, thanks again for leaving your feedback. It’s hard for me not having contact with you guys and see what you’re making.
How are your projects coming together?
